Recruitment & Retention
Practice
Management Technical Assistance
The Mission of the Practice Management Program is to improve retention
of primary care practices in the targeted region by optimizing financial
viability. This project offers technical assistance services through
program coordinators trained in Practice Management Technical
Assistance, PMTA. These PMTA coordinators focus on improving the
operational and financial efficiency of certified rural health clinics,
community health centers, and primary care and specialist private
practices in the targeted region. The PMTA coordinators provide
technical assistance through both group workshops and individual
consultations focused on business aspects of practice management.
Services offered include on-site practice assessment and focused reviews
of a specific operational area; e.g., patient flow, billing and
collections, and HIPAA compliance. Follow-up visits are made to evaluate the effectiveness of
the recommendations and provide referrals to connect practices with
other resources.
The Practice
Management Program currently offers services to 16 counties in East
Texas with a population of almost a half million people. Eight of the
counties are designated as geographic HPSA, and six of the counties are
designated as partial low-income population HPSA. The goal of the
Project is to support seven (7) trained PMTA coordinators providing PMTA
services to 111 counties in East Texas.

Texas Toolbox for
Community Health Development
The newly revised web-based version of this
project was enhanced to provide communities with links to resources to
assist them in their recruiting efforts. Topics range from assessing
communities needs to recruitment and retention of physicians and other
healthcare providers to economic development issues that directly effect
local and regional community health systems.
The Texas Toolbox
website and previous versions of the Toolbox were researched and written
by Lake Country Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and The East Texas
Rural Access Program (ETRAP) through funding provided by The Robert Wood
Johnson Foundation.
